Droidcon 2012

Background:

Droidcon 2012 hacknight is the second edition of what was a fun and productive hacknight in 2011. At the Droidcon 2011 hacknight, we saw a variety of apps - 13 in total - produced overnight, within a span of 12 to 18 hours. Participants were primarily app developers, and some folks who had interest/expertise in UI and design. Participants had a keeness to learn. Hacknight  facilitators leveraged this curiorsity and helped participants to form groups and work together.

This year, we want to build on the excitement, learning and peer-to-peer environment  by helping you to propose your ideas early on, and thinking through them before you come to the hacknight. 

At the hacknight, we not only want to develop apps and work on hacks that excite us; we also want to discuss the thought process that lies behind the understanding of a problem and the conceptualization of a solution. Further, we want to push participants to think about how to take their apps to the market and popularize them.

Mentors at the hacknight will help participants to fine tune their ideas. They will also provide an overview of the  Android and smart phone ecosystem in today's times, and emerging opportunities for technology and marketization. 

Participants can come up with projects on any one of the following themes, or a topic of their choice:

1. NFC
2. Sensors
3. Arduino
4. Gaming
5. Geospatial data and location based applications 
6. Enterprise app development
7. UX patterns and challenges    

You can also work on projects proposed by the sponsors of Droidcon 2012 hacknight - Mobstac and Lukup - and understand the worlds of web on mobile and user generated content.

Next steps:

1. Register for the hacknight. You will receive a confirmation from us about whether your application has been accepted.

2. Propose a project idea, and/or join a team.

3. Comment on other projects.

4. Come to the hacknight with your ideas and gear!

Mentors

Soham Mondal 

Soham is the co-organizer of the Bangalore Android User Group (BAUG) and an active member of the Android community. He specializes on Android UI design. His app 'Sky Recorder' is available on the play store.

Amrit Sanjeev

Amrit works as a research engineer with the Mobility Group at Philips India. Earlier, he was with IBM as the Lead Architect for the Android Platform development group. He is a co-organizer of the Bangalore Android User Group (BAUG) and is passionate about Android programming.

Kush Sharma, Mobstac

Kush has been with Mobstac for 10 months. He does frontend development and mobile app development for iOS and Android platforms at Mobstac. Kush is passionate about latest developments in the world of mobile. (His android phone runs a nightly build of CM10 :) ). Kush is keen to see projects floated by participants, before and at the Droidcon hacknight, and help them work on their ideas. 

Anand V, Lukup

Anand is a product specialist working on Android applications and services ported on multiple SoC platforms.
